Valeriia Popova is a Ukrainian-born, Miami-based artist known for her bold pop art and fearless storytelling through color and character.
Before turning to the canvas, she made waves as a professional swimmer — representing both the Ukrainian National Team and Florida International University. That same drive and discipline now fuel her creative energy.
Her love for art began in childhood, coloring her father’s cartoon sketches — the spark that evolved into her vibrant, signature pop art style. A self-taught artist, Valeriia fuses nostalgia with modern edge, reimagining familiar icons as symbols of luxury, emotion, and attitude.
Her work captures elegance, ambition, and playfulness — where vintage glamour meets contemporary pop.
Beyond the studio, Valeriia draws inspiration from travel, museums, and high-energy pursuits like boxing and shooting, feeding the bold spirit behind her work.
At her core, she paints to evoke emotion — to make people stop, smile, and feel something real.
ARTISTIC STATEMENT
My work explores aspiration, individuality, and the bold contrasts of modern life. Engaging themes of power, fashion, luxury, and nostalgia, I create paintings that examine how identity is constructed and how ambition is projected.
Drawing from the glamour of the mid-20th century, I merge vintage sophistication with the iconography of childhood cartoons — transforming familiar figures into symbols of status, memory, and cultural mythology. This tension between refinement and play reflects the layered nature of contemporary self-image.
Each composition is driven by color, contrast, and deliberate gesture — a visual language that is vivid, controlled, and unapologetically expressive.
For me, art is a bridge between past and present — a space where personal narrative meets collective memory. Through bold imagery and a precise sense of opulence, I create work that invites viewers to reconsider how aspiration shapes who we become.
